As part of TimescaleDB 1.5, we’ve introduced a data tiering feature named move_chunk. This feature allows you to move individual chunks between PostgreSQL tablespaces. A tablespace is a location on disk where PostgreSQL stores data files containing database objects. The key here is that, as data ages, you can change the type of storage it resides on by simply adding new tablespaces backed by different classes of storage.

We are currently working to implement this feature in Timescale cloud, and it is currently unavailable. For more information on how data tiering works for our self-managed product, please click here.
